The leading cause of maternal death in Sierra Leone is haemorrhage and, since Lifeline works with pregnant women and teenagers, we use these voluntary community blood donation initiatives to help minimise this problem.

The Lifeline team continues its program to educate, support and recruit voluntary blood donors from within both urban and rural communities in Sierra Leone.
The management of Koidu Government Hospital requested that Lifeline support them in addressing the increasing demand for blood, as they believe Lifeline has one of the best models for recruiting the necessary voluntary donors.
