GENERAL UPDATES

Community Engagement on FGM
On June 23rd, Lifeline partnered with AWATS (African Women And Their Stories), a community organisation based in Freetown, seeking to empower African women, to discuss one of the most sensitive and critical issues in Sierra Leone, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The session, part of a wider campaign on AWATS, included:

  • educational talks by medical professionals on the health risks of FGM
  • an open dialogue with community elders who courageously shared their past experiences and emphasised positive cultural practices
  • lively engagement activities, including film screenings, drama performances, a fashion show, and girl-focused group discussions and empowerment sessions.

The whole event was an intergenerational, inclusive and respectful space that empowered girls, whilst educating boys and men alike on protecting the rights and dignity of women and girls.

The photos here show LNP Director, Prince Tommy Williams, making opening statement (above), a participant contributing from the back but holding the full attention of those gathered (left), and some of the girls using drama to foster discussion on the subject of FGM (right).

Current Thoughts & Consideration
Reflecting on this past month’s achievements, we remain grateful to God, to our partners, to our staff, and to the communities we serve.
Whether through education, home care, technical and vocational training, moral support or advocacy, Lifeline remains totally committed to making the maximum possible impact, creating pathways for the marginalised individuals, families and communities with dignity and purpose, and to creating more opportunities.

Together, we are not only transforming lives, we are nurturing a future filled with hope.
