EDUCATION: Investing in Children

Education continues to remain one of the central pillars of LNP’s work, through its education program which provides learning opportunities and support to children at Nursery, Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, in both the Freetown urban and Punduru rural communities.

The Current Academic Year

The 2026-27 academic year is in full swing and school management teams are making concerted efforts to ensure that all the students receive quality educational services within safe, supportive and conducive learning environments.

As an important part of LNP’s commitment to accountability, transparency and shared responsibility in the education of children, and as part of these efforts to strengthen school governance and promote parental participation, a meeting was held at the Lifeline compound, involving both parents and teachers, to provide the perfect opportunity for the school management team and the teachers to engage with the parents on the delivery of these educational services, to discuss the general running of the different schools, and also to receive feedback, suggestions and recommendations from parents themselves.

Public Examination Results & Educational Performance

The National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results have now been released but, unfortunately, the WASSCE results have presented some concerns nationwide, particularly regarding the number of candidates whose results were withheld and the limited number of students who obtained passes in English Language.

These developments require careful examination and appropriate responses from everyone connected – the school management, the teachers, the parents and other relevant stakeholders – and a detailed analysis of the WASSCE results, including the implications for students and possible improvement strategies, will be presented in due course.

Lifeline Junior Secondary School, Punduru

Notwithstanding the challenges confronting the school and the wider education sector, Lifeline Junior Secondary School in Punduru commenced this academic year on a very strong footing, the school management and teaching staff deserving significant recognition for their continued commitment to ensuring the pupils in the community have access to the best possible education.

Despite the recent successes, Lifeline remains determined to continually strengthen the school’s performance, improve the teaching and learning opportunities and provide the pupil in these rural communities with meaningful education.
