NEHEMIAH HOME FOR BOYS & GIRLS

LNP continues to intentionally invest in the education, personal development and future leadership potential of children and young people through the Nehemiah Home program.

At present Joel Thomas Karim, Abdul Sankoh, George Gbortu, and Salamatu Kargbo are  awaiting their WASSCE results, while Rose Dawn Kamara, Madiana Karim and Joe Sam continue their education in this new 2026/2027 academic year.

In addition to our Nehemiah Home resident children, LNP continues to provide educational support to other vulnerable, non-resident boys and girls, although this initiative has been delayed slightly while the leadership takes some time to review the previous academic performance of these non-resident beneficiaries, seeking to identify learning gaps and determine appropriate, strategic support structures for the new academic year.

Nehemiah Girls’ Dormitory Rehabilitation

Significant progress has been made on the redevelopment of the Nehemiah Home girls’ dormitory building which, in seeking to address previous problems with water ingress into the living areas during the rainy season, now has an upper floor which, in turn, is almost completely roofed using attractive, blue zinc panels.

Some of the infrastructure and fittings in the exiting ground floor section, including the electrics, air-conditioning, doors and other fixtures, are in need of replacement, so the LNP leadership is in the process of developing plans to:

  • reinstall the electrics, repair and re-plaster the walls, as necessary, and retile the ground floor area
  • replace damaged doors and fittings, and install new or repair existing window guards
  • complete the roof, and plaster, tile and paint the new upper floor structure
  • complete other essential renovation works

The goal is to have the building ready, in a sufficiently-well completed condition to enable the Nehemiah Home girls to move into their new and improved living quarters by 2027, as always, subject to the timely availability of the necessary resources.

Here are some Before & After photos of the redeveloped building…

The AVSI Foundation is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in Italy in 1972, that implements development cooperation and humanitarian aid projects worldwide, and we are especially grateful to AVSI Sierra Leone team who approached the LNP leadership with a proposal for establishing a partnership to support more vulnerable children, and preliminary discussions around the subject matter, and an assessment of what LNP provides, have been completed.
